Is the Tide Turning in Ukraine? (Op-ed)

In his regular op-ed for Új Szó, Balázs Jarábik examines the growing debate over whether Ukraine is beginning to shift the dynamics of the war. He argues that while Kyiv has managed to improve its position through technological adaptation - particularly the expansion of long-range and mid-strike capabilities - the strategic balance remains more complex.

Jarábik highlights that Ukraine has become more capable at imposing costs on Russia, but Moscow continues to hold key advantages in a war of attrition, especially through missile production, air power, and the ability to strike critical infrastructure. However, the emerging debates inside Russia over “how much winning is enough” suggest that the costs of a prolonged conflict are increasingly felt on both sides.

The analysis concludes that the war may be entering its final escalation phase, with both sides seeking to improve their positions before serious negotiations become possible.
